INFORMATION & FAQ

Hello, Huntonites! The House Staff recognizes that you may have a TON of questions about residence life and this upcoming year in general. Here are some Frequently asked questions and tips to (hopefully) lighten your stress load!

What does Hunton look like?
Hunton has three nearly identical floors of rooms (four singles and sixteen doubles per floor) with a basement containing a main lounge, a small kitchen, two study lounges, a laundry room, two storage rooms, and Don John’s apartment. On every floor except the basement, there are ten communal, co-ed washrooms. Two staircases connect all the floors. There are two sets of double doors in the front and one set in the back, off of the lounge.

What will my room look like?

At first look, you may think "how will I fit ALL of my stuff in here?". But in time, you will learn to love your cozy, little abode and make it yours (and your roommates) own!

Every room includes the following; Double rooms include two of each:

  • ONE twin bed frames

  • ONE twin mattresses (74”)

  • ONE desk, with drawers, a corkboard, a built-in desk light, and a shelf

  • ONE desk chair

  • a small trash can

  • a small refrigerator

Double rooms also include:

  • TWO small closets (or a closet and a wardrobe)

  • TWO small dresser units with four drawers each (or one and a wardrobe)

  • TWO double-shelved units built into the wall above the beds

  • EIGHT electrical outlets (four per side)

  • TWO ethernet outlets

  • a phone jack

  • a ceiling light

*Note: some beds come with drawers built into the space beneath the beds. Most do not. Plan to have a bed without built-in drawers, and then be pleasantly surprised if you do!

What if I have too much stuff, Where can I put my suitcases and/or travel stuff I won’t need until I go home?
Hunton has two storage rooms, located in the basement, where you can put sports gear and storage bins and suitcases and anything you brought but don’t think you’ll need. Storage is always locked, and you’ll have to ask an RA to open it for you. You can also store stuff over the summer if you decide to return to Hunton for a second year (I promise, you'll want to) !

Is there Wi-Fi ???
Of course! However, it’s not very good when there’s a lot of people in the house using it, and it’s especially bad in the lounge, so bringing a (long) ethernet cord is a very good idea, just in case. There is Wi-Fi all around campus and in every building. Your Mount A password and username (the same one you use to access your Mount A email account) is the username and password for both Mount A Wi-Fi networks, which are the same for the entire campus (you don’t have to keep logging on whenever you move to a different building).

Should I start saving quarters for laundry?
Nope! Laundry is a one-time fee paid as part of your residence fees. Hunton has three washing machines and three dryers, all in the laundry room, as well as a cold-water sink for hand-washing items of clothing. Don’t be confused by the coin slots on top of the machines, they’re just there to trick the unwary. You do have to bring your own detergent and dryer sheets, but you get a free laundry bag as part of your first year pack (providing you buy the first year pack) (highly recommended) !

What is Orientation like?
Orientation is mostly run by the Mount Allison Students Union (MASU) but there will be a bunch of Hunton events so we can all come together as a house. Orientation is extremely fun and designed to welcome you into the Mount A community. It’s also completely optional, so if you ever feel uncomfortable, you can opt out at any time. However, it’s strongly recommended that you at least try everything - you never know if you’ll enjoy it!

Are Hunton's house colors green and white, Should I bring green and white clothing?

Why YES, they are! How did you guess? And absolutely, positively bring lots and lots of green and white! You're going to need it! Plain white t-shirts are also extremely useful, as they can be written on and customized for all sorts of events!
